It’s Independance Day!

July 4, 2006

Happy 4th of July to you and your families. Especially to those who continue to protect our freedom.

On the home front, I’ve been blogging for three months, trying to adjust and optimize my writing and fall into a groove that makes sense. I started a blog as a personal experiment:

  • come up with a concept I know about
  • write meaningful words about it regularly
  • experiment with building an audience
  • experiment with search engine optimization

As anyone who writes a serious blog would know, motivating yourself to produce meaningful content on a consistent basis is challenging. I’ve enjoyed using my brain to come up with ideas, and add some meaning to them.

I’ve been using Google’s free Blogger tool. As I became more comfortable with it and adjusted my layouts as my writing expanded, I began to notice some of the limitations of the tool.

After talking to a past colleague last week about WordPress, I decided to dive in and see what I could do. I had an underused Web server. The blog migration required setting up the WordPress software and MySQL on my Web server. Remarkably, these were easy to do and I was up and running in no time.

In my enthusiasm to learn and experiment, I probably lost about 10 hours to the research, install, setup/config, select templates, import old blog posts from Blogger, re-edit and re-organize everything.

Along the way I realized my content really justified splitting into two distinct blogs, so my postings in each would be more relevant.

As a result, I invite you over to my new homes on the Web:

www.Chaos365.com — Discussions on managing daily chaos in advertising, marketing and your professional career.

www.AdMadMan.com — Discussions on effective marketing and advertising techniques and what’s new in the industry.

I hope you find it interesting.

Have a safe and happy Fourth of July!
-Roland
