88,000 Patients Had Info Stolen From Staten Island University Hospital

Staten Island University Hospital (New York) waits four months to inform patients that their personally identifiable information had been stolen from their financial office.
The data, including social security numbers and health insurance numbers, was stored on a desktop computer and backup hard drive stolen on December 29, 2008. No one has been arrested for the theft.
Incredibly, Staten Island University Hospital waited four months to inform the patients who had their information stolen. The hospital spent nine weeks identifying a credit monitoring service before informing the affected patients.
